😶 The teacher calls on her in class...And suddenly she's silent.

She knows the answer. She was talking just moments ago.

But now she's frozen. And it often gets worse when she's questioned repeatedly:"Why did you do that?""What were you thinking?""Tell me what happened."The more she feels interrogated, the more her brain shuts down.

🧠 Many children with ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, or learning differences spend years being corrected, criticised, misunderstood, or blamed for things they didn't fully intend.Over time, they may stop trying to explain themselves because experience has taught them that defending themselves rarely changes the outcome. So instead of speaking up...they freeze.

What looks like:❌ Defiance❌ Rudeness❌ Guilt

May actually be:

🧠 Anxiety

🧠 Processing overload

🧠 A learned protective response

💡 Try this instead:

✅ Give them time to think before answering

✅ Ask one question at a time

✅ Use a calm, curious tone instead of rapid-fire questioning

✅ Say, "I'm here to understand, not to get you into trouble."

✅ Let them write or draw their response if speaking feels hardSometimes silence isn't because they have nothing to say. It's because they've stopped believing anyone wants to hear it.
